Revised syllabus
Trumpet
Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) is proud to announce the launch of its revised trumpet syllabus, available for examination in all states from 2020. Following the 2017 comprehensive review of the trumpet manual lists, 2020 now sees a complete review of the technical work requirements, culminating in the release of
Trumpet technical work and orchestral excerpts (2019), a new series of grade books (Trumpet series 2) for Preliminary to Grade 4, AMEB recorded accompaniments for
Trumpet series 2 (Preliminary to Grade 3), and
Trumpet sight-reading and transposition.
The revised syllabus also introduces 2 new examinations, Preliminary level at the beginning of the syllabus and certificate of performance, which serves both to cap the Level 2 examinations as well as prepare candidates for the requirements of the Level 3 examinations.
The following resources, available from November 2019, may be used with the new syllabus:
- Trumpet Series 2 grade books: Preliminary to Grade 4 (2019)
- Trumpet Series 2 recorded accompaniments: Preliminary to Grade 3 (digital download, 2019)
-
Trumpet technical work and orchestral excerpts (2019)
-
Trumpet sight-reading and transposition (2019).
Users of the revised syllabus will be able to source their repertoire from any of Trumpet series 2, Trumpet series 1, Brass series 1 or the works on the manual list.
Horn and trumpet technical work (1992 reprinted with new cover 2004) may not be used with the new syllabus. This book may only be used with the trumpet syllabus that last appeared in the 2019 manual of syllabuses.
Brass sight-reading (2004), while not tailored to the parameters of the revised syllabus, may be used as an extra resource for practice purposes. Orchestral excerpts for trumpet that were previously contained in
Brass orchestral excerpts (2004) have now been republished in
Trumpet technical work and orchestral excerpts (2019).
The revised trumpet syllabus will be examined concurrently with the version of the trumpet syllabus that last appeared in the
2019 Manual of Syllabuses for 2 years after the release of the new syllabus. From the start of 2022 the previous trumpet syllabus will no longer be available for examination.
